What’s the difference between essential oils and synthetic fragrances?
Essential oils are the essence of the plant, as the term suggests. These powerful substances are extracted from the blossoms, leaves, fruits, wood, buds and roots. Compared to synthetic fragrance compositions, they are far more complex. For example, natural essential rose oil contains up to 300 different compounds. Synthetic fragrances are usually made from petroleum derivatives, meaning they do not come from living nature. Essential oils, on the other hand, allow you to experience the true nature of the plant.
How do fragrances work?
Smells have a far greater influence on our wellbeing than we realise. They can directly influence our feelings and awaken our memories. Our body wash formulations are biodegradable
Weleda body washes, shampoos and new facial cleansers are biodegradable according to OECD criteria. This is important for skin cleansing products as they go directly into the wastewater when washed off. According to the guidelines of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), a product may be classified as “biodegradable” if the substances and raw materials it contains can be broken down into smaller components by natural processes, such as by bacteria or their enzymes.
