Water is the foundation of the water phase and solvent for hydrophilic (water-loving) substances.

The pale yellow to clear sunflower oil is a light vegetable oil. It works as a perfect massage oil and it is ideal for the attention of normal and combination skin. Due to its high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, such as linoleic and oleic acid, it is full of skin caring properties and it is suitable as a carrier oil for active substances.

Caprylic/Capric triglyceride is a mixture of two fatty acid esters. The mixture is a light, skin-soothing oil with very good dispersive properties, which is also suitable for sensitive skin. The fatty acid esters are made from plant oils.

Glycerin is a natural component of fats and oils, which consist mainly of triglycerides (a combination of glycerin and three fatty acids). The glycerin that Weleda uses is obtained exclusively from plant oils. Glycerin is used as a moisturiser in cosmetic products as it is able to release the water it absorbs. Glycerin also makes oil-in-water emulsions easier to spread and has a smoothing and protecting effect on the skin.

The pale yellow to golden yellow Safflower Seed Oil is a fine and light oil. It is rich in linoleic acid and contains Vitamin E. Safflower Seed Oil is easily absorbed by the hydro-lipid film of the skin and thus supports its barrier function. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for sensitive and dry skin.

Alcohol is another term for ethanol or ethyl alcohol. In manufacturing plant extracts contained in Weleda's products, mixtures of alcohol and water are used as extraction agents in some formulations. The consistency and stability of natural cosmetic products are improved by alcohol.

Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is an emulsifier that can be used in both O/W emulsions (oil-in-water emulsions) and in W/O emulsions (water-in-oil-emulsions). It is produced from various vegetable oils and citric acid. The emollients of Glyceryl Stearate Citrate leave the skin feeling soft, silky and smooth.

Betaine is an amino acid derivative and is also a natural component of hair. In cosmetic products, betaine is used as a moisturiser because it is able to release previously absorbed water. Betaine is obtained from molasses.

Shea Butter is a semi-solid, butter-like vegetable fat. The skin-friendly Shea Butter is mainly used to improve consistency. It leaves a fine film on the skin, which has smoothing properties and preserves the moisture of the skin.

Tapioca is the starch gained from the cassava (manioc) root. It is a white powder that is used in cosmetic products to improve consistency.

Stearic acid helps stabilise emulsions and can also be used in the coating of mineral UV filters. Stearic acid has a moisture-retaining effect on the skin. It is made from plant oils.

Palmitic acid is a fatty acid that helps stabilise emulsions. It contributes to reducing the amount of water that evaporates from the skin and is suitable for use in emulsions for the care of dry skin.

Sorbitan olivate is an emulsifier*, which is used for the stabilization of W/O- emulsions (water-in-oil emulsions). It improves the spreadability of the product and contributes to a pleasant and smooth skin-feeling. The fatty acid ester is produced from olive oil and vegetable starch.

Rosemary leaves contain the essential rosemary oil, caffeic acid derivatives, flavonoids and triterpenes. Rosemary leaf extracts have a tonic effect. They are suitable as ingredients in skin care products for tired, pale skin.

The yellow-white blossom heads of the camomile flowers contain the essential oils, flavones and cumarins. The extracts of the camomile blossoms have a smoothing effect on the skin and support its regeneration.

Viola Tricolor Extract is especially characterised by its long-chain sugars. These form a moisturising and protective layer on the skin. Therefore, the extract is very suitable for the care of dry and sensitive skin.

Calendula blossoms have a light- to dark-orange colour and are typical of the Calendula flower. They contain various carotenoids, flavonoids and saponins. Calendula Officinalis Flower Extracts have smoothing properties and support the regeneration of the skin.

Xanthan Gum is a high molecular weight, long chain carbohydrate (polysaccharide), which is used as a natural gelling agent, emulsion stabilizer, binder and viscosity regulator.

Vitamin E is isolated from vegetable oils. It is used as an antioxidant (free radical scavenger).

Lactic Acid is a natural ingredient of the protective acid mantle of the skin. This raw material is used in emulsions to regulate the pH-value.

Glyceryl caprylate is a co-emulsifier that is primarily used to stabilise O/W emulsions (oil-in-water emulsions). It possesses replenishing, moisture regulating and wetting properties. Glyceryl caprylate is manufactured using various vegetable oils.

Fragrance (Perfume) is the collective name for raw materials that are used to perfume cosmetic products. For such products, Weleda only ever uses a mixtures of natural essential oils. Synthetic fragrances are not utilised.
