Birch leaves contain flavonoids and tannins, which activate the skin's metabolism and the fluid organism. Its leaf extracts are ideal for massage oils, as well as for products that are skin-smoothing and support the strengthening of the connective tissue.

Water is the foundation of the water phase and solvent for hydrophilic (water-loving) substances.

Coco-Glucosides are mild, washing-active substances with decent detergency and foaming power. They are produced from vegetable oils and are therefore readily biodegradable. Coco-Glucosides are also especially well-suited to cleanse sensitive skin.

Alcohol is another term for ethanol or ethyl alcohol. In manufacturing plant extracts contained in Weleda's products, mixtures of alcohol and water are used as extraction agents in some formulations. The consistency and stability of natural cosmetic products are improved by alcohol.

Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a mild surfactant with very good cleaning properties and a very good foam performance. It is very suitable for cleaning sensitive skin. Vegetable oils and sugar are the raw materials that are used for the production of this detergent.

Beeswax is a precipitate of bees' wax glands, which is used to build the honeycombs. The wax melts at a temperature of over 60°C. The skin-friendly beeswax is mainly used as an emulsifying agent and to improve consistency. Beeswax leaves a fine film on the skin, which prevents it from drying out.

The light yellow Carnauba Wax is a very hard natural vegetable wax. It is used as a protecting wax component and to improve consistency in skin care products.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that improves consistency of lip balms. Further it can be processed into fine wax beads, which can be used as gentle exfoliating particles in cosmetic products.

Glycerin is a natural component of fats and oils, which consist mainly of triglycerides (a combination of glycerin and three fatty acids). The glycerin that Weleda uses is obtained exclusively from plant oils. Glycerin is used as a moisturiser in cosmetic products as it is able to release the water it absorbs. Glycerin also makes oil-in-water emulsions easier to spread and has a smoothing and protecting effect on the skin.

The light-yellow to yellow Apricot Kernel Oil is a light oil, which is easily absorbed by the skin and leaves the skin feeling soft and silky. It improves the barrier function of the skin and therefore it is ideal for the attention of sensitive and dry skin. Similar to the Sweet Almond and Peach Kernel Oil, it comprises a high content of unsaturated fatty acids, such as oleic and linoleic acid.

Fragrance (Perfume) is the collective name for raw materials that are used to perfume cosmetic products. For such products, Weleda only ever uses a mixtures of natural essential oils. Synthetic fragrances are not utilised.
